Prophet Yunus (AS) is one of the divine prophets whose story is purposefully told in four surahs of the Quran. The narration of the story of Prophet Yunus (AS) in the Quran prompted Hanlis Kuluska to investigate and study the origin of this story and the factors affecting it. The present article, adopting a descriptive-analytical method, is dedicated to criticizing and examining Kuluska's view on the interpretation of the story of Yunus (AS) in Surah Al-Qalam. Kuluska's view has five main axes, which we will first examine. These five axes are: dating the revelation, structuralism, examining terms and concepts, examining the connections between surahs, and the connections between the story of Yunus (AS) with the tradition and art of Judaism and Christianity. Under each axis, we first explain Kuluska's view, and then Muslim commentators, and use it as a criterion for criticizing and evaluating Kuluska's view.In the parts where the Islamic interpretations of the material raised by Kuluska do not exist, we have had to refer to other Islamic sources. Kuluska's views on issues such as the Meccan nature of Surah Al-Qalam and the meaning of verses 48-50 of Surah Al-Qalam are similar to those of Muslim scholars. Among the criticisms leveled at his work are: the use of few Islamic sources and misinterpretations of them, the lack of citation of materials and claims, the involvement of religious assumptions with a Christian approach, ambiguity in terms, and superficiality.
