The two articles "Jesus" and "Mary" in the Leiden Encyclopedia of the Quran were written by Neil Robinson and Barbara Freire Stowasser, respectively. Since both articles are influenced by New Testament data and weak ahadith, it is necessary to criticize them based on the teachings of the Quran. Therefore, this descriptive-analytical study, after comparing the contents of those two articles with the teachings of the Quran and authentic hadith, has reached the following conclusions: According to seven verses of the Quran, including “And We have not made for man before you immortality... Every soul will taste death” (Al-Anbiya, 34-35), Prophet Jesus (PBUH) passed away from this world like all the people before him when his time came, and his soul ascended to the afterlife. Therefore, Robinson's view that the views of Islamic commentators regarding the death of Jesus (pbuh) or his ascension, which are all influenced by narrations, is correct, but his final conclusion that the Quranic content regarding the death of Jesus is not conclusive and clear, is incorrect.
Stowasser has also neglected these two subtle points of the Quran, that Mary became pregnant immediately after Gabriel's conversation with her and gave birth to Jesus on the same day, outside the temple, in a suitable and pleasant place.
