The subtle border that leads to differences in the results of indigenous and Oriental studies is rooted in historiography. The term "Late Antiquity" has been frequently used in the literature of Orientalists. From the perspective of these researchers, the Holy Quran, along with the distinct identity of Judaism and Christianity, plays a fundamental role in giving meaning to Late Antiquity. For this reason, the concept of adaptation can be regarded as the main premise of the studies conducted by Orientalists in their engagement with the Islamic heritage, especially the Holy Quran.
From the perspective of the critical approach of this article, civilizational discontinuity, the vulnerable state of Christianity, and ambiguity regarding the position of the Bible are considered prominent features of the term Late Antiquity.
This analytical framework has critically examined the historical perspectives of Orientalists through the lenses of historical-developmental distinctions, Quranic veracity, and the differentiation between the tradition of events and the methodology of evaluation. The conclusion drawn from this examination is that the historical-developmental interpretation represents a complementary dichotomy rather than a mutually exclusive framework.
