Abstract
Islamic studies have been one of the favorite subjects of many orientalists in the last century. Although Shia studies have been given their special attention only in the last half century, a significant amount of sources have been formed about various aspects of Shia, including Shia imams. One of the favorite subjects of orientalists is the biography and events related to the life of Imam Hussain.
The study and investigation of this issue shows that Imam Hussain, along with Imam Ali and Imam Hassan, are among the imams who have been noticed more than other infallible imams.
This article, while reviewing and classifying these sources, has introduced them briefly and tries to answer the question of which sources can be used to search for Western thoughts about Imam Hussain and what approaches can be recognized.
This article has categorized the works of Westerners into ten sections and mentioned the most important sources from each for example and pointed to their general approach.
