In analyzing the text of the Qur'an, Neuwirth considers it as a literary work. In his view, explaining the position of the Qur'an among the Holy Scriptures as well as Muslims depends on a careful study of its structures and content. The relationship between form and content and enumerating its characteristics in the historical context and also explaining how the relationship is formed is considered as an important issue from his point of view. His literary approach is based on communication theory. On the one hand, Neuwirth considers the Qur'an as a text of communication and interaction with the historical context of its time, and on the other hand, as an independent and dynamic text that has succeeded in achieving its theological goals. Using a descriptive-analytical method, this article explains Neuwirth's approach and method in studying the Qur'an. According to the results, in order to achieve the communication process of the Qur'an, he used the method of discourse analysis. In fact, discourse analysis is a suitable field for analyzing communication processes, and Neuwirth has used this method in analyzing the Qur'an's success in communicating with its audience.
