Abstract
The debate over the origin of the Holy Quran has a long history. Although all Quran scholars consider this book to have a revelatory and divine origin, Many orientalists consider the origin of Quranic Surahs (chapters) and verses to be not divine revelation, but influenced by the culture of the time and taken from previous holy books or oral sources. Using a descriptive-analytical method, this article critically examines the views of orientalists such as Brockelman, Richard Bell, and Luxenbergm, comparing it with the views of an optimistic orientalist named Neuwirth.
There is a common problem in the view of most Orientalists: the similarity between the Qur'an and the Judeo-Christian scriptures has led them to adopt the view that many of the stories and teachings of the Qur'an are derived from them. In this study, relying on the methodological and linguistic approach of Angelika Neuwirth, the well-known view of Orientalists has also been criticized. According to this study, Neuwirth has tried to give a novel view and reading of the Qur'an by using historical-critical and philological methods as well as critical methods of sacred texts, and has achieved important results based on confirming the originalty of the Qur'an.
